Damage to Head from Forceps

Forceps, a set of twin steel blades, can be used to assist in delivery of a baby during complicated births, including breech births and those involving epidural complications and exhausted mothers. The forceps clamp onto both sides of the baby’s head to assist delivery.

Forceps and Ventouse deliveries not only increase the risk of injuries to babies, but also the risk of injuries to mothers such as perineal tears and anal fissures.

Failure by obstetricians and midwives to use appropriate forceps techniques and follow appropriate procedures during forceps deliveries can occasionally cause babies serious injuries such as cranial nerve injury and depressed skull fractures which require surgery, as well as catastrophic injuries such as Cerebral Palsy, brain damage and even death.

We can pursue and obtain compensation for birth injuries sustained as a result of negligence in the use of forceps. Our team of dedicated expert specialist medical negligence and birth injury solicitors have many years of experience in handling birth injury compensation claims including Cerebral Palsy claims, Erb’s Palsy and Brachial Plexus injury claims. It is important that your claim is dealt with by specialist medical negligence lawyers, as these claims are complex and are usually of high value. We specialise solely in complex clinical and medical negligence claims and have an excellent record. We represent birth injury children  in high value medical negligence claims, many resulting in very substantial settlements. We have the expertise to obtain the maximum amount of damages to compensate and provide for your child’s future and to support you and your family through the process.

You may be entitled to damages for the injury, for past care and assistance, costs of future care and assistance, anticipated loss of earnings, reduced earning capacity, additional travel costs and other expenses, accommodation and/or adaptations to accommodation if required, aids and equipment, costs of any recommended medical treatment, orthotics, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Our team is led by Tony May, a specialist birth injury solicitor with an excellent record and with over 20 years experience and expertise in dealing with Cerebral Palsy claims, Erb’s Palsy claims and other birth  injury compensation cases, many resulting in multi-million pound settlements. Tony continues to represent many Claimants in birth injury medical negligence claims. He also acts as the Court of Protection Deputy for many of our cerebral palsy and brain damaged clients, so we can continue to provide ongoing support after your case has settled.
