Caesarean Sections

A Caesarean Section delivery is the surgical method of extracting a baby from a mother's womb. It involves cutting through the skin and fat layers, into the womb, to allow the baby to be removed safely. Complications can unfortunately sometimes occur. These can be unavoidable, non negligent complications of the operation or of the pregnancy, or occasionally they can be caused by negligence of the obstetric surgeon or negligence of the obstetric doctors or midwives caring for the patient prior to the procedure. If an injury is due to medical negligence then there may be compensation available.

Some of the complications and risks of a Caesarean Section include:

Severe bleeding where the incision is made which will require additional treatment and carries the risk of  emergency hysterectomy being required and/or death.

Infection, which also carries the risk of infertility, other complications and death

Adhesions, which occur when bands of scar tissue heal and cause organs to stick together. This happens in 93% of pelvic operations.

Injury or death of the baby.

While some injuries are common, unavoidable and non negligent complications, some injuries are preventable and caused by negligence. When obstetricians, midwives and surgeons are negligent, victims have the right to seek legal compensation if injured as a result of the negligence and this is where Chadwick Lawrence can help.
